Tutorial: Adding Friends

July 24, 2008 / by team

We've received some questions recently on how to add friends on Blogster, so this is a quick tutorial/howto.

Sending Friend Invitations:

After logging in, when viewing someone else's blog you'll see a "Befriend" button underneath their profile picture. Clicking this sends a request to the user, asking them to be your buddy.

Accepting Friend Invitations:

When you receive a friendship invitation, a blue notification banner will display at the top of the page. Click on the text in the banner or click on the "My Friends" tab to go to your friends display.

Once there, you can see all incoming and outgoing friend requests. To accept an invitation and become someone's friend, click "Approve."

Hope this is helpful!

Cheers,

Very good SigmaX..! Thanks for the info. I will pass it around among the loonplatoon members. Many are joining and are asking about this.

I have a couple of questions if I may.

    1. Everyone loves Blogster but many complain the blog re-loads too slowly. Will that problem be addressed in the future?

    2. It would be much better if we could re-sort the order of posts so that new posts appear at the top. Then when we post, we would be taken to the location of your new post (at the top). Also when someone first signs onto a thread, they would see the newest posts first.

    3. It seems to me that it would make much more sense to display the time of a post rather than how long ago a post was made. That way, we can refer someone to a message posted at a specific time.

    4. Will you ever have the thread roll into pages, say after 100 posts, so the thread does not grow excessively long. We seem to be approaching 300 posts a day on the Loon  and we are just a few days old.

We love Blogster and will stay around regardless, but it would be wonderful if we could choose the attributes above for our blog, Loon Platoon, and all the offshoots of the various "Friends" weighing in on the Loon.

Thanks so much for listening! Will anxiously await your reply! -Neo

    Neo:

#1: Yes -- Blogster can be painfully slow at times.  We're working hard (Sometimes literally around the clock) on a new platform that will work much better, and will be implemented in the upcoming weeks.

#2: Sorting comments by most recent, a la Youtube, no?  I'll add that to our list of feature brainstorms while we design the new system.  Can't say we'll implement it though -- a lot of people prefer the way things are now, no doubt.

#3: Agreed.  It's especially annoying when things say they were posted "3 months ago" or something like that.

#4: Paginating the comments... good observation.  I'm intrigued by the Loonplatoon -- it's somewhat unique :-) -- and if it weren't for you guys I don't think anybody would ever have gotten 300 comments.  A very good thing to point out -- thanks!

Whatever the case, none of these changes will be in this week or next -- but if you stick it out, right now is a very good time to discuss features you'd like, since Blogster is sitting in parts as putty in our hands :-).

You can also see your friends request if you miss them in the my notifications link on the left hand side of the 'manage blog' page which you can see in yellow and black at the top of the page.

Thanks for your reply SigmaX. And thanks for stopping by the Loon. Sorry I missed you, but I did read your posts.

Regarding #2 above, I have never paid attention to YouTube.. Have been on YouTube a thousand times and did not know they had comments! LOL Just ignored as white white noise I suppose.

I still think that ordering comments with the most recent on top is logical. When I visit a thread, I don't want to see what was said yesterday, I want to see the live activity, the most recent comments. That is what keeps me there - stale data does not. Maybe I am just too impatient, but I spend a lot of time on the computer and my time and attention span while seeking is limited. If I cannot discover the course of a thing within seconds, I move on.

Perhaps this could be handled by a switch that would re-order the posts according to the users preference. That seems to be pretty common these days, so it must be a desirable feature. Have used it for years in spread sheets, email, etc.

Just a thought, but you might do some ground breaking and allow the user to highlight a certain name in the thread. Instead of the posters name being a direct link to their blog, when clicked, a menu would drop down and you would have the choices; "Go to users blog", "Highlight user in this thread", "Add user to friends", "Block user", etc. If they selected "Highlight user", all posts by that user would appear with yellow highlighting so a friend would be less likely to be missed. I think your bloggers would love that feature.

Anyway, a great job you guys are doing!!

    Thanks, -Neo

Great job. I don't need it but good job explaining. I am sure their are some people who are a little less computer savy that may need that help. Appreciate you all going through the extra effort!!

I received the following Email and I wanted to bring it to your attention.  My intuition tells me that this person is a TROLL and a trouble maker.  The person they speak of, couldn't be a more honorable and decent human being and couldn't be more "saint" like than anyone I know.  I'd like ot knowtheir IP address to compare it to the "stalker" who has been following me around the internet trying to create serious problems for me.

Here's the Email and please keep an eye on this poster:

I want to warn you about your friend benedict aka Frank Dixon...I've known him for over 3 years and he is a liar, bully and a cheat..We had a online affair for over 2 years then we both were on a discussion board where he turned ugly, cruel and bullied me along with some of his friends..This is not a nice man..

He will tell you I am crazy or any number of things to deny what I am telling you but I am telling you the truth, beware of him, he's a ugly person, he's evil and nasty in his heart..
